Dr. Ehsan U Syed has been providing psychiatric care to children and adolescents since 1998. He graduated from University of Maryland Child and Adolescent psychiatry fellowship in 1998 and before that he completed a general psychiatry residency at Delaware Psychiatric Institute, New Castle DE. Dr Syed is a 1991 graduate of Dow Medical College of Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi Pakistan. He has held several faculty appointments and administrative and leadership positions in different institutions. Most recently he was the Medical Director for Child and Adolescent services at Sheppard Pratt from 2021 to 2024, prior to joining University of Maryland in August 2024. Prior to that he spent over 10 years at Penn State College of Medicine as an Associate Professor in the division of child and adolescent psychiatry. He also worked at the department of psychiatry at Aga Khan University, department of Psychiatry as faculty for over 11 years. He has engaged in teaching and training of medical students, psychiatry residents and C and A fellows through out his career. He has published about 25 peer reviewed papers and a book chapter and has been invited as guest speaker several times. He has a special interest Health Quality and safety which culminated in a masters degree in this subject from Jefferson College of Population Health, TJU Philadelphia PA. His clinical interest ranges from treatment of disruptive disorders and mood disorders in children and youth across all setting from inpatient to partial hospitalization to outpatient and community setting.
