David Pruitt, MD, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, is the former Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine and is a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. Throughout Dr. Pruitt’s career, he has been involved clinically with all ages of children and adolescents in all levels of clinical care utilizing a family centered treatment model. He has a broad background, experience and expertise in developing programs from both a population/public health and patient focused perspective. He is particularly interested the underserved family in rural and urban areas how to bring public health and system of care principles and practice together while protecting the core ingredients of physician/patient relationship. Dr. Pruitt has helped develop and lead state-wide programs including the Maryland Behavioral Health in Pediatric Primary Care Program (B-HIPP), as well as specialized programs in School Mental Health and Early Childhood Mental Health. He leads the Department of Psychiatry Tele Mental Health Program which has helped bring scarce mental health services to underserved areas.
