Telemental Health Services

BHIPP offers direct telemental health services for youth and families who otherwise may not have access. Services are provided by a clinical team with extensive experience in the care and treatment of children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders and take place via phone, email, or HIPAA compliant encrypted video call. BHIPP telemental health referrals are initiated by a primary care provider and are evaluated for eligibility on a case-by-case basis.

*Please Note: A BHIPP Consultation is required prior to initiating a telemental health referral. Referrals and requests for services can be made by primary care providers only – patients/families should not contact BHIPP directly to initiate telemental health services.

FAQ

BHIPP services are free of charge, regardless of your patient’s insurance status.

The Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) will ask you for a brief description of why you are calling. The BHC will ask for the patient’s age, gender, race, and insurance coverage, as well as any pertinent history, including current/previous treatments, medication regimen, and current diagnoses. They will arrange for a call with one of our BHIPP child and adolescent psychiatrists who may ask additional questions to assist in providing the best consultation possible. If after completing the consultation you and the BHIPP Consultant agree that telemental health services would benefit your patient, they will assist you in starting a referral.

Telemental health services are reserved for children who have been unable to access care locally and who would benefit from one or more of the following services: psychological evaluation, care coordination, or records review.

After you have completed a consultation, the BHIPP Telemental Health team will review your case information and determine whether the patient/family is eligible. If the patient/family is eligible for services, our Care Coordinator will contact you to complete a release of information with the family that explains our services and provides our team with permission to contact them. Once the referral form is completed and returned, the Care Coordinator will contact the parent/caregiver for consent, and to initiate services.
